Primary Art Competition

On Thursday 13 August, Balcatta SHS Gifted & Talented Program held the annual Primary Art Competition in the Ron Murphy Gallery.  Year 5 and Year 6 students from our local intake primary schools were invited to submit artwork with the theme of ‘Landscape’.  They were encouraged to create artwork using a variety of materials.  Special guests included Mayor Mark Irwin, School Board and P&C members, and our Gifted & Talented Visual Art patron, Professor Ted Snell AM.  The event was well-attended by a large number of parents and students, primary school teachers and community members.  Our Music students also showcased their talents by performing at the event.  Thanks to our Gifted & Talented Coordinator, Ms Elena Bollweg and our Music Coordinator, Mr Daniel Rees for your coordination of this very successful event.

All artwork was judged by one of our tutors, Ms Jodie Davidson who works with our Gifted & Talented students.  Certificates of Excellence and Certificates of Commendation were awarded to one student from each primary school.  Our Gifted and Talented Patron of the Arts, Professor Ted Snell AM selected Zak Magdy, Year 5 student from Osborne PS for the Patron of the Arts Award and also gave a special mention to Sara Lenz, Year 5 student from Tuart Hill PS for her artwork.  Our Principal, Mrs Helen Maitland selected Gurnoor Kaur, Year 5 student from Balcatta PS for the Principal’s Award.  Finally, the People’s Choice Award went to Rachel Cenci, Year 5 student from Tuart Hill PS.

Congratulations to our Award winners!
