Congratulations to Health & Physical Education teacher Kirsty Johnson who, together with her Year 11 Health Studies class, instigated the initiative of holding a Health Expo at Balcatta Senior High School. The students investigated health-related issues and manned interactive and informative stalls, displaying information on various health and well-being topics. We also had a number of external providers from a range of organisations, including The Amanda Young Foundation (for meningococcal disease), Act/Belong/Commit, Hepatitis WA, WA AIDS Council, Donate Life, St John Ambulance, Headspace, Oral Health Promotion (Rosewood Dental Girrawheen), Cancer Council WA, Helping Minds, Paolo Gizzarelli (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), Australian Institute of Personal Trainers, Gwelup Soccer Club, Road Trauma Support WA, School Nurse, Subiaco Football Club, Young Carers WA, Year 11 Health Studies students and Year 12 Hospitality students.
The school gymnasium was transformed into an interactive health zone for the day, with each year group being allocated a time slot to attend and engage in the different stall activities and gain valuable information about health and well-being.
Cancer Council WA – provided “Veggie Man” and “Sid the Seagull” costumes and pamphlets.
