Big Art Day Out

28 August 2019

Invitations were recently sent to 200 northern suburb primary schools, showcasing our school and inviting them to attend a ‘Big Art Day Out’ event held in our Art Gallery on Saturday 19 October 2019 from 8.30 am to 3.00 pm.

The event was a free art taster for Year 5 students, as Year 5 is when applications for the Gifted and Talented Visual Art programs begin.  Saturday was a great opportunity to showcase and promote Balcatta SHS and our specialist program, while showcasing how we enrich creative students’ learning and to have some fun.

It was a great day and positive feedback was given from students and parents.

The students had the opportunity to work in the art studios with four different artists and rotate through four workshops throughout the day:

  • Artist and tutor, Mark Tweedie ran a self-portrait acrylic painting project.
  • Artist and tutor, Jodie Davidson ran a wire sculpture project where the students made a portrait of themselves.
  • Art tutor, Kody Mason ran a digital class.
  • Art teacher, Michelle Murning took a very successful printing class.

The quality of the artwork produced was very high – there are some very talented Year 5 students!
