Wear it Purple Day – Wednesday 9 September

Today students wore purple as part of our Act-Belong-Commit Week. We had Victory Life also come in and make pancakes during Lunch 1.

During Lunch 2 we had students drumming using “bongo drums”. A lot of fun was had by all.

Foodbank

As part of Act-Belong-Commit Week during Week 8, Balcatta SHS hosted a School Food Drive calling on all parents/guardians and students to help us tackle the growing issue of hunger in Western Australia by asking for food donations (non-perishable items only).  Some examples of food donations included food cans (fruit, vegetables, meals, etc) and long-life items (UHT milk).

Hunger remains a largely hidden crisis in our state, yet an estimated 480,000 West Australians went without a meal some time over the past year.  Every day people of all ages are dealing with the anguish and despair of not knowing where their next meal is coming from, many will have no food for their children.

Last year, Foodbank WA provided more than 6.1 million meals to people in need via our network of charity partners and schools.  While the majority of food was rescued and surplus from the food and grocery industry, Foodbank WA also needed to purchase food to try and meet the ever-increasing demand throughout the state.

This is a fantastic way for students to learn about food insecurity and the importance of giving, and every donation really does make a huge difference to the most vulnerable members of our community.  The donations collected will also help ensure Foodbank WA have a variety of food available in their warehouses every day.

Foodbank WA and Balcatta SHS appreciate your assistance.

Neala Johnson and Dario Bobanac are pictured with the generous donations we received for the 2020 School Food Appeal. We would like to thank all staff, parents and students for all their generosity for this great cause.

World’s Greatest Shave – Monday 14 September

The Balcatta Senior High School Baldemorts participated in the World’s Greatest Shave to help beat blood cancer.

World’s Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation – we’re on a mission to ‘shave’ the world from blood cancer!  Please sponsor us to give families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need. ‘ You’ll also fund vital research to help more people survive blood cancers, while improving their quality of life.  Every day another 47 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer.  That’s one Aussie every 31 minutes.  Although research is improving survival, sadly an Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours.  Will you help by sponsoring us?
