Academic Extension Program

20 March 2019

Our Year 7 Academic Extension Program is well underway and students are progressing well. Below is a summary of what the academic extension students have been working on so far this term.

Science:

The students in Science have been working on their measuring skills – using thermometers, rulers and balances to make accurate measurements. They have also looked at how to design an experiment, and most of them now have their Bunsen licenses.

Mathematics:

The students have been learning about percentages, decimals and BIMDAS (order of mathematical operations). The students are now moving onto fractions whilst also starting to practice for the Mathematics Olympiad Competition.

Humanities and Social Sciences:

The students have been learning about the foundational concepts of economics. Through this topic, they have been building on their research skills, practicing recording information and analysing the reliability of information found on websites. They have also been writing bibliographies.

English:

The students have been working on their “My Life” booklet where the students presented information about themselves and were learning about writing letters. The students are now moving onto reading skills. Students have read a book of their choice and completed a book review. They will now commence studying a class novel.
